HOPF
We got your question about the Hopf - violin.
Hopf was a family of famous violinmaker in Klingenthal. Markneukirchen and Klingenthal are the most important towns of instrumentmaking in Saxony since 300 years. Hopf-violins are good instruments but we cannot tell you who made your violin. Other violinmakers took the same stamp to be able to get more money for their violins. You have to show your instrument a violinmaker. May be he can tell you more about it. If not, please come to Markneukirchen and show your instrument to one of our violinmakers.
We have a book about the Hopf family but there is no Joseph Balthasar Hopf. Can you send us a picture?
We hope we can tell you something more about it.
